ExperienceI earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology while studying at Randolph College. Since then, I have become a teacher certified by the National Board, and have had more than a decade of experience teaching classes at a middle school level. I believe students should be provided with numerous opportunities to learn in a variety of ways, including content, but also general and specific skills. I live for the light bulb moment, when my students realize that they have finally come to understand a subject or concept they had been struggling with. The best learning has its base in curiosity, so I work with the students I teach and tutor to foster a motivation to learn beyond "get good grades." Although I believe in good grades, as well. Tutoring gives me the chance to learn a particular student's learning style, so I can provide individualized lessons that take their specific needs into account. I am then better able to guide them as they discover the answers they seek, which gives them a great deal more confidence than if I were to just tell them the answers, and leads to their retaining the knowledge they have worked to learn. Aside from teaching, I like traveling, crafting, and playing with my cats.
